A new archeology exhibition exploring the origins of Yangtze River Delta civilization opened today at the Qingpu District Museum, as part of Shanghai's International Museum Day celebrations.

The exhibition "Eastern Star: Archaeology in Qingpu and the Exploration of the Origins of the Yangtze River Delta Civilization" draws on archeological findings spanning around 6,000 years, offering insight into the region's shared cultural roots and long history of interaction.

Guided by the Shanghai Museum, it is a joint project by nine museums and archeological institutions from across the Yangtze River Delta region.

The exhibition focuses on major archeological findings from the Songze and Fuquanshan prehistoric sites.

Focusing on major archeological discoveries from the Songze and Fuquanshan prehistoric sites, the exhibition presents 148 Neolithic artefacts, including plant and animal remains, pottery, stone tools and jade objects.

At the Songze Site section, the exhibition traces early Shanghai civilization through finds such as a human skull, evidence of cultivated rice, and distinctive five-coloured soil layers.

The Fuquanshan section features refined Liangzhu jadeware and fine black pottery, reflecting the peak of Neolithic craftsmanship at the site known as the "Eastern Earthen Pyramid."

Immersive scene reconstructions and multimedia installations bring ancient daily life to the foreground, combining archaeological research with an accessible visitor experience.
